A 360-degree feedback is a multi-rater survey instrument that uses input from employees, peers, subordinates, and supervisors to rate the effectiveness of an individual manager. Most 360-degree feedback programs focus on the manager level and above.

360-degree feedback is a method of assessment that can enrich an organization's human resources through the identification of individuals' personal development needs, improved feedback and teamwork, and better career development. The end results include improved customer service and a better "bottom line." When it comes to evaluating their employees, executives find that accurate feedback can often be very difficult to obtain. People tell them what they think they want to hear, rather than what they need to hear. Therefore a 360-degree feedback can help - because the feedback comes from multiple sources and comes anonymously; it provides executives with exactly what they need: frank evaluations.

HR Solutions' 360 Degree Feedback Assessment is typically composed of no more than 50 survey items with a few open-ended questions. Usually the following core competencies are included in the design of the assessment:

We recommend using mostly closed-ended questions. The closed question format will include a section for the respondent's view of others, as well as a section that will focus on the respondent's view of themselves. This type of question allows for easy completion by respondents and will maximize participation. The closed questions also allow for easier grouping of data and trending in the analysis (either within a survey by grouping category questions, or trending from year to year). Customized questions allow our clients to tailor the assessment to the internal competencies and values of the organization. A pre-formatted assessment will tend to be more broad-based/generic in its design.
